Have You Filled a Bucket Today?

Maybe you have heard your child(ren) use the words bucketfiller or bucketdipping.  These words come from a book that I have shared with each class k-8 titled "Have you Filled a Bucket Today?'  The basis of the story is that everyone carries around an invisible bucket.  Our buckets carry our good thoughts and feelings in it.  When we are sad or lonely our buckets are empty.  Bucketfilling is doing good deeds for others and showing someone that you love/care about them.  Bucketdipping is treating others in a mean way.  A bully is a bucketdipper.    In each class we spent time talking about what each looks like.  Every classroom has their own bucket to remind each student to be a bucketfiller every day.  I encourage each of you to use the words and help develop this in your child.

St. Albert Counseling Program

Welcome to St. Albert's school.  I am Stacie Short, the school counselor.  As the counselor, I am involved in many aspects of the student's life, from his emotional health and  social growth to her academic success.  I also work very closely with the parents, teachers, and administration, as well.  It is so important that we all work together to help the student feel successful.

Our counseling program consists of many programs that can help all students.

  • The guidance program includes all classes.  I meet with each class at least once a month to discuss issues that are important to that particular age group.  For example, friendship skills, bullying, respect, lifeskills, etc.
  •  Small group counseling involves a small number of students that may need extra help in their social development.  A small group allows each child to have a more personal experience and an opportunity to exercise the techniques they learn in a non judgmental environment.
  • Individual counseling is for students who may need to have a one on one conversation about issues they are experiencing in their life at this time.  Many issues can be solved over a short period of time.
  • Outside referrals are given when needed for issues that may be more complex.  A list of outside referrals is available on request.
  • Minds in Motion Maze works with our Kindergarten classes.  This is offered at the student's snack time in the cafeteria.  It includes exercises designed to develop and challenge a student's balance and learning capabilities.
  • The House Program is for the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.  This program offers an opportunity for the Jr. High to work together as a family.  There are eleven houses with two eighth grade leaders, one teacher mentor, and a mixture of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders.  There are monthly activities designed for teambuilding and social interaction, as well as service to our school and community.
  • PeaceBuilder Program involves the entire school in creating peace throughout St. Albert and in the community.  We say our pledge each day.  We focus on giving up put downs and helping others.

I look forward to working with you and your child.  If you would like to contact me please use the following email: sshort@stalbert.org .  If you would like me to see your child please complete this form and return it at your convenience.
